Requiem: A Musical History will air on KBACH on Tuesday, November 2 at 8 PM on 89.5 and at KBACH.org. November 2nd is All Souls’ Day. It’s a time when a lot of choral groups perform settings of the Requiem Mass.
On November 2nd at 8 PM, Phoenix area bass singer Charles Newton will host a trip through the ages and introduce listeners to some of the most incredible settings of the Mass.
Who is Charles Newton? When it comes to music, Charles likes to keep busy. Since taking his first piano lessons at 10, picking up the clarinet in middle school, then later, finding his singing voice, Charles has performed virtually every genre of music. It has not been unheard of for him to perform in a symphony concert, play in a nightclub or casino, and sing an operatic aria in a voice recital, all in the same weekend.
As a choral vocalist, Charles has performed a variety of classical masterworks, including many of the Requiems highlighted in this program, on stages around the Valley including Symphony Hall, Gammage Auditorium, and Mesa Arts Center. Charles continues to study voice with world-renowned vocal coach, choral arranger, and Valley resident, Linda Spevacek.
