In 2021 KJZZ 91.5FM and KBACH 89.5FM launched RENOVATION 2021, a $1.3 million dollar capital campaign. The campaign kicked off with generous support from KJZZ Leadership Society member, Deeann Griebel who matched sustaining member donations, giving the campaign a strong start.
Recently Virginia G Piper Charitable Trust awarded the stations $70,000 in grant funding for this studio renovation, broadcast media equipment, and infrastructure project.
Because of donations from public radio supporters along with Virginia G Piper Charitable Trust, the stations have now reached their $1.3 million dollar goal. Virginia G. Public radio station, KJZZ 91.5 FM is celebrating 70 years of service to the state of Arizona. KJZZ went on the air in 1951 as KFCA 88.1 FM. Classical music station KBACH hit the airwaves in 1993 and has continued to provide 24/7 classical programming since that time. The stations are listener-supported and part of the Public Service Division at Rio Salado College in Tempe, Arizona.
The last technology upgrade for both stations took place twenty years ago. After many years of service to the community, providing classical music, local, national, and international news, jazz, and entertainment programming, the KBACH and KJZZ studios broadcast technology is in need of upgrading wiring and equipment. Currently, station engineers are working to identify the best integration team to execute the project. The work is projected to begin in October and wrap up approximately January 2022.
Piper Trust works side-by-side with nonprofit organizations as a partner, helping them to identify problems, build expertise, find solutions, and become continually stronger and more effective. KBACH is a listener-supported public service of Rio Salado College and is licensed to the Maricopa County Community College District and Arizona State University. The station broadcasts classical music 24/7 from the campus of Rio Salado College. KBACH is part of the Public Service Division of the college located in Tempe, Arizona. KJZZ is a listener-supported public radio station broadcasting from the Phoenix metropolitan area. As the NPR member station for the region, KJZZ features a mix of local, national, and world news. Classic jazz and blues air at night and weekend programming includes comedy, arts, news and entertainment.
